Order Amending the Canadian Passport Order

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, hereby makes the annexed Order Amending the Canadian Passport Order.

ORDER AMENDING THE CANADIAN PASSPORT ORDER

AMENDMENT

1. Subsection 12(5) of the Canadian Passport Order (see footnote 1) is replaced by the following:

(5) This section ceases to have effect on March 31, 2013.

COMING INTO FORCE

2. This Order comes into force on the day on which it is registered.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)

The Minister of Foreign Affairs has authorized the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, pursuant to section 12 of the Canadian Passport Order, to exercise certain administrative powers of Passport Canada listed in that section 12, through Service Canada at certain points of service. Subsection 12(5) of the Order currently provides that section 12 ceases to have effect on March 31, 2010, This Order extends the application of section 12 until March 31, 2013, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development have decided to pursue their partnership after that date.
