Héma-Québec (GST/HST) Remission Order

Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, considering that it is in the public interest to do so, on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance, pursuant to subsection 23(2) (see footnote a) of the Financial Administration Act (see footnote b), hereby makes the annexed Héma-Québec (GST/HST) Remission Order.

HÉMA-QUÉBEC (GST/HST) REMISSION ORDER

REMISSION

1. Remission is granted to Héma-Québec in the amount of $184,217.78. This amount represents the unrecoverable tax paid by Héma-Québec under Part IX of the Excise Tax Act in respect of supplies of plasma expander it acquired from Canadian Blood Services during the period beginning on September 1, 1998 and ending on April 12, 2001.

CONDITION

2. The remission is granted on the condition that a written application for the remission is submitted by Héma-Québec to the Minister of National Revenue within two years after the day on which this Order is made.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)

The Order provides for the remission of $184,217.78 to Héma-Québec. The amount represents the portion of goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax (GST/HST) paid by Héma-Québec, in respect of its purchases of Pentaspan—a blood substitute known as plasma expander—from Canadian Blood Services, for the period beginning on September 1, 1998, and ending on April 12, 2001, that it could not recover by way of a rebate available to public service bodies.
