DOMINION WATER-POWER APPLICATION
Trent University (1600 West Bank Drive, Peterborough, Ontario K9J 7B8) hereby gives notice that on November 21, 2007, it filed an application with the Director of Waterpower, Parks Canada Agency, under the Dominion Water Power Act, for a licence to continue to operate and to upgrade the turbines within the existing hydroelectric generating facility, known also as the Stan Adamson Power House, at Nassau Dam on the Trent–Severn Waterway National Historic Site of Canada.
The facility is located at 1377 Armour Road, Peterborough, Ontario K9J 6Y1, at the Nassau Dam on the Trent–Severn Waterway National Historic Site of Canada. The facility has been operated by Trent University and its predecessor, the General Electric Company since 1921. The facility is currently capable of producing 2 400 kW of electricity. The upgrade will increase the capacity to 3 900 kW of electricity.
There will be no changes to the current water level regimes, no effects on navigation, and no changes to the exterior of the existing powerhouse building. There will be an improvement in by-pass capacity at this location, which will improve overall water management capabilities.
An environmental screening for this upgrade has been conducted in accordance with the provisions and requirements of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and has been reviewed and approved.
The purpose of this notice is to advise the public of the opportunity to provide comment regarding this upgrade and licensing, in writing, within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice, to the Director of Waterpower, Parks Canada Agency, Jules Léger Building, 25 Eddy Street, 6th Floor (25-6-R), Gatineau, Quebec K1A 0M5.
