P.C. 2004-768 21 June, 2004
Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, pursuant to section 27 of the Chemical Weapons Convention Implementation Act, assented to on July 13, 1995, chapter 25 of the Statutes of Canada, 1995, hereby fixes July 1, 2004 as the day on which section 8 of that Act comes into force.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order.)
The Chemical Weapons Convention Implementation Act ("the Act"), other than section 8, came into force on January 1, 2001 by means of Order in Council P.C. 2000-1775 dated December 13, 2000 and registered as SI/2001-3. Section 8 of the Act was not brought into force at that time as it was necessary to prepare regulations regarding the production, use, acquisition and possession of certain toxic chemicals and their precursors listed in Schedule 1 of the Schedules of Chemicals set out in the Annex on Chemicals in the Convention of the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction. Regulations have now been prepared and will come into force on the same day as section 8 of the Act.
